Have you ever picked up a book thinking to yourself, “hmmm… I’ll just read the first two opening paragraphs and see if it grabs me enough to continue reading,” only to find yourself well into the second page before you realize you’ve read well past two paragraphs? The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson is definitely one of those books that will bring you in on the thoughts and concepts of the author, very earlier into the first chapter.
Speaking of the author, Jeff Olsen earned himself a reputation in the direct sales industry, as a top earner, top distributor, and successful CEO of Nerium international. He joined the direct sales industry in 1988 and since then has become a well known success in the industry. Jeff Olson wrote The Slight Edge to tell his story and share some of the knowledge and philosophy he used, throughout the years to build a successful business.
This book will wow you and really make you think hard about how you spend every minute of every day in your life. In this book, he drives home the fact that the current places or situations in life, that each one of us are in, are a direct result of what we repeatedly do and how we repeatedly think. The slightest change in our habits from day to day can result in a huge difference later on, whether it takes days, months, or years.
Many of us say to ourselves things like, “it’s only a little bit, it won’t hurt me”, “how is this one routine the answer to my problems?”, “this seems too simple, there has got to be more to it”, or how about this one, “how did that person become so successful so fast?”
It is absolutely crucial to achieving our goals in life, that we realize the long term effect that all of the little things, combined, have on our lives. Good or bad, our daily habits (thoughts and actions), dictate what will happen to us in the near future. In order for things to change, we must change. In the book, he brings out a good analogy of eating an apple a day. If you eat one apple a day for thirty days, it will have a positive effect on your health. But if you eat 30 apples in one day, and then go back to your normal diet, it’s not going to help you much, and it could potentially have a negative effect on your health.
This is just one of the great analogies and interesting concepts he shares in this very well written book, The Slight Edge, and if you’re serious about achieving more in your business, personal, and family life, we strongly recommend that you go get you a copy and read it from front to back.
